New Sensation

So Rockstar:INXS came to an end this week with JD winning and becoming the new front man for INXS. Good for him. Even though I wanted Marty to win, I somehow feel that INXS made the right decision. I mean, JD has a huge fan base that will automatically become INXS fan base now plus JD does have the rock star thing going on for him. Well, I wish them best of luck. What made me really happy though was that they eliminated Mig early on in the show. He sucks.

One more thing that I like about the finale was the absence of drama that we usually show in all reality finales. All the other contestants were present at the finale but neither we saw much of them nor did they speak a word.

In the end, INXS with their new lead singer JD premiered a new song, “Easy, Easy” and it sounded pretty good. So it was a good end to a good show.

I Love Opera

Opera

As you might have guessed from the picture, I am talking about Opera Web Browser. I simply love it. I wanted to write about it for quite some time but since Opera became free yesterday, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to tell everyone why I love it.

I started using Opera in 2001 and was very impressed. I mean, it had tabbed browsing and popup blocker even back then and was much faster than IE and that was a big factor considering I was a dialup user. It even allowed hiding all the images of a web page.
So it soon became my favorite browser. It did have some minor problems and some sites didn’t work with it properly but that wasn’t much of a problem cos I used IE for those few sites. It had a search bar too.

Opera tabbed browsing

Opera has evolved wonderfully since then. It has its own mail client; RSS feed reader (I use it to keep track of 40 blogs), great looking skins, download manager and whatnot. It even has a trash can which basically stores information about the recently closed windows. These are just some of the wonderful features that it offers.

It has mouse gestures that, even though I don’t use, can be very helpful. It also allows you to store a session (meaning all the open windows).

Its usage was a little limited till now because it displayed an add in the free version and you needed to pay for a premium version without adds but now that it has gone free, I’m sure it will become very popular soon.

So go ahead and give it a try, download Opera from http://www.opera.com/.

What’s Going On?

So as I wrote in my last post, a lot of blogworthy things happened in the past few days. So here are a few of those that come to my mind right now:

  • I was offered a job with a good pay package but a terrible job profile. I had no clue what to do and thus began a slew of phone conversations with anybody and everybody I knew in the field of IT in Bangalore. Now, you need to understand that talking to so many people in 2 days is a big deal for me. There are only 7-8 people to whom I can talk in the world for more than 5 mins on the phone. Plus I had to talk to people who I had not talked to for weeks or months. But I did a surprisingly good job talking to everyone. This just reconfirms two things: I work well under difficult situations and I love praising myself.
  • I declined the offer finally. I have no regrets about doing that.
  • At the family front, things are good. My youngest sister gave birth to my newest niece last Friday.
  • I hate the street dogs in Bangalore far more than I did ever before. This is because of a mad dog on Millers Road who has now attacked me 3 times. Its crazy.
  • I couldn’t write a post on Rockstar:INXS this week but sadly there wasn’t much to write about it anyway. Last week’s show completely sucked ass. I almost slept. Suzie went home (yay!). I hope things will get better this week in the finale. I am placing my bet on Marty. JD would be my second choice and Mig the last. Lets see what happens.
  • Things aren’t too bad on the reality TV front either because though I’ve lost all interest in Rockstar:INXS and its about to end anyways, my favorite reality show ever, The Amazing Race is coming back in two weeks. I’m not very thrilled about the new season being the Family Edition but I trust Bruckheimer.
  • I wanted to post about the new Lux ad featuring Shah Rukh Khan but couldn’t and now its too late for that so I’ll just copy-paste my thoughts on it that I posted as a comment on another blog:“Shah Rukh looks creepy in the ad. He looks like a serial killer who kidnaps and kills women/men (whoever he prefers) and this ad seems to have been recorded when he is training his latest victim on how to take his/her last bath ever.”

That’s all for now. More later…

Ups and Downs

For the first time since I became a regular blogger, I did not post anything for three days. This was because a lot of things were happening in my life and I was very confused. But that phase has passed and I finally have clarity of thought now.

A lot of blogworthy things happened during this period. I’ll start writing about them from tomorrow. Right now, I am in the midst of creating a presentation on ORM/ Hibernate and JDO.

C ya tomorrow ….
