I’ve always liked the idea of business travel cos one basically gets to visit new places without applying for leaves. Now it’s time to find out what it’s actually like cos I have finally got an opportunity to travel for work. And it’s a long trip. I’ll be gone for almost a month. I hope to see lots of new places, meet new people, and takes lots of pictures. Basically, have fun (besides working, of course). Right now, last minute preparations are on and I am yet to start packing. But I have whole of tomorrow for that so I am not really worried. I’ll try to write a post as often as possible and try to post pictures too.

Gearing Up!
Look Around You
Its only been few days since I bought my new camera and since I don’t get time to go to some picturesque locations for a shoot during the week, I had to limit my experimentation around the office and home. I still have to learn a lot of tricks because the camera offers a lot of choices and it takes time to figure out when to use what.
Edit: I posted the pic of my dirty shoes I talked about in the last post on the request of two people but then decided to just give a link to that pic on flickr. Go watch it there and if you find it gross, don’t complain.
Anyhow, here are some of the pictures I have taken with my new digicam.
Some small different colored flowers in the office campus.
Some plants in the office campus.
A giant cloud as seen from the office terrace.
Hope you like them. You can see these and few other new pics on my flickr page as always.
Note: I do not plan to turn this blog into a photoblog so I won’t be posting pictures here unless there’s some special reason. You can always find all my pics on flickr.
Instant Happiness
16th July, 2004 was when I came to Bangalore and yesterday I completed 2 years in the city. The city has been really nice to me in these two years. I have grown really attached to the city. I consider it my second home. And I feel good about Bangalore these days. After a development drought of several months, the city is getting some share of development. Roads are being rebuilt and repaired; long delayed flyovers are finally getting ready, new sidewalks are being made. Things are looking up.
As one might have noticed, I didn’t write a post in the last 10 days or so and since it’s important that I blame someone, I would like to place the entire blame on some people in my blog neighborhood who also happen to be my blog’s loyal readers (at least three of them) for not reading my blog and commenting on the posts in the past couple of weeks. The only consolation is that they are genuinely busy which can be proved from the fact they’ve not been updating their blogs. So it’s not like they are just ignoring my blog.
Last Saturday, amidst all the rain and the accompanying madness, I bought a new digicam. It’s a Canon Powershot S2 IS. It’s absolutely fabulous. What this means is that you’ll soon get to see lots of pictures on this blog. None today though cos I haven’t taken any worthwhile pictures yet except for a pretty neat picture of my dirty rain-soaked shoes.
Here We Go Again
In my last post, I mentioned my life’s rules and just yesterday, I received a forward from a friend titled “Life’s Little Instruction Book”. Now, I don’t know how popular this forward is or if everyone knows about it but I thought I would share some of the points. My comments are in italics.
Points that I agree with and practice:
- Always accept an outstretched hand.
- Be brave. Even if you’re not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.
- Give people a second chance, but not a third.
- Don’t allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It’s there for your convenience, not the caller’s.
- Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.
- When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go. – Of course, otherwise it gets awkward.
- Take charge of your attitude. Don’t let someone else choose it for you. - Absolutely
- Once in a while, take the scenic route. – I do this as often as possible.
- Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on your ability to deal with people.
- Wave at the children on a school bus.
Points that I don’t agree with or can’t practice:
- Whistle. – I’ve tried, I can’t.
- Avoid sarcastic remarks. – Oh come on, I might as well stop talking altogether.
- Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have. – I think false hope is just not worth it.
- When playing games with children, let them win. – Why? Nobody let me win when I was a kid.
- Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born. – Not gonna happen.
- Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them. – Its difficult for some people.
Points that are very interesting or I might want to try:
- Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.
- Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know. – I think I might be that already.
- Begin each day with some of your favorite music. – I try to.
- Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.- I know I should but some people themselves make it hard to respect them
- Become someone’s hero. – Who knows, I might already be someone’s hero.
Moving on, I’m sure everyone must have heard those people on TV going all nuts about the new superman movie. Apparently, they would explode into thousand pieces of Kryptonite if they see anyone other than Christopher Reeve playing the title role. I mean, it’s been a long time since then and I didn’t see any of those movies so who cares! I saw Superman Returns last Saturday and it was pretty good. I honestly never expected it to be that good given all the okayish reviews. Brandon Routh is excellent as Superman. There’s James Marsden aka Cyclops in the movie too. Kate Bosworth though is not very good. She looks more like an overworked mother than a fiery journalist. Or maybe I’m too used to watching Teri Hatcher play Lois Lane. But the movie was awesome. It made me take a superhero seriously for the first time and that’s not a joke even though I am laughing and it sounds totally ridiculous.
