Freaky Friday

When you make a list of things you would do when you stay alone someday in your childhood, it doesn’t include looking for a plumber to fix the leaking stopcock in the bathroom, does it?
But that’s exactly what I had to do today.
Sucks!

In other news, I would like to confess that I am a Fanta addict. I have to drink it everyday. I finish off the 2l bottle in three days. Is there a rehabilitation program that I can join?

Also, I wrote my first post for Naachgaana today. Can’t believe how difficult it is to write for something other than your personal blog. I mean, I can write absolutely anything I want here but to write for some other website, it’s a lot of pressure. I hope I did a good job.

Quick Recap

Here are few of the blogworthy things that happened in the last couple of days:

  • I am used to being blinded by high beams at night but yesterday evening I got blinded by some bluish white light of a car. It was so bright and blinding that I couldn’t even see which car it was. Are such lights legal? Do the traffic policemen not see these lights? Or do they turn a blind eye towards it?
  • Saw Ricky Martin’s new video featuring Amerie called, “I don’t care”. It’s awful. Really, really awful. The worst song I’ve heard in a long time and I have heard “We be burning” so that’s saying a lot.
  • On the other hand, “I’m Feeling You” by Santana and Michelle Branch is not bad. It sounds like a continuation of “The Game Of Love”, which I liked too. Actually, I like Michelle so I like everything she does. Whether or not “I’m Feeling You” becomes as successful as “The Game Of Love” remains to be seen.
  • I have become a contributor/member of Naachgaana.com, a group blog about everything bollywood. I haven’t written anything there yet but I’ll do that real soon. I’ve been reading it since yesterday to grasp the tone of the blog. You should visit it too.

Earth is Fun

It started with one of my colleagues asking for help in figuring out why his Google Earth wasn’t working properly and then suddenly I got sucked into it. Soon we together located and marked The Forum, our office, my home, my friend’s home, ISCKON temple, Fun World and my sister’s house. Then more of my colleagues joined in and soon we were trying to locate each and everyone’s house. We were successful in most cases but we were unable to locate one particular colleague’s house in Jayanagar 8th block because my knowledge of that area is limited and she was unable to provide any landmarks.

Google Earth is fun for me more than it is for others because I am fascinated with maps. I have five different types of maps of Bangalore and am yet to buy the comprehensive Eicher map that one of my friends has.

I Love Opera

Opera

As you might have guessed from the picture, I am talking about Opera Web Browser. I simply love it. I wanted to write about it for quite some time but since Opera became free yesterday, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to tell everyone why I love it.

I started using Opera in 2001 and was very impressed. I mean, it had tabbed browsing and popup blocker even back then and was much faster than IE and that was a big factor considering I was a dialup user. It even allowed hiding all the images of a web page.
So it soon became my favorite browser. It did have some minor problems and some sites didn’t work with it properly but that wasn’t much of a problem cos I used IE for those few sites. It had a search bar too.

Opera tabbed browsing

Opera has evolved wonderfully since then. It has its own mail client; RSS feed reader (I use it to keep track of 40 blogs), great looking skins, download manager and whatnot. It even has a trash can which basically stores information about the recently closed windows. These are just some of the wonderful features that it offers.

It has mouse gestures that, even though I don’t use, can be very helpful. It also allows you to store a session (meaning all the open windows).

Its usage was a little limited till now because it displayed an add in the free version and you needed to pay for a premium version without adds but now that it has gone free, I’m sure it will become very popular soon.

So go ahead and give it a try, download Opera from http://www.opera.com/.

Stumble Upon

I started using the StumpleUpon! plug-in for Firefox sometime ago and its simply great. Whenever I’m getting bored, I just need to press the stumble! button on the toolbar and I find myself on a funny or entertaining page. You can also rate these pages as “I like it!” and “Not for me!” and select the kind of pages you want to stumble upon. Here are some of the cool pages I found using it:

Check these out sometime and if you use Firefox then get StumpleUpon!
