A Series Of Accidents

I went to the Airtel shop on Cunningham Road on Sunday and only 2 of the 7-8 desks had representatives. One of the two was talking on the phone so I went to the other one. Now, this girl was chewing something. I told her that I wanted to migrate from prepaid to postpaid. She told me to come the next day. I was not happy with her response so I asked if she could at least give me some info. Now she opened her mouth to answer me but then …she started choking on whatever she was eating and she suddenly got up and started coughing. I was standing still all this while thinking if I should do something. After she gained control a few seconds later, she looked at me with her watery eyes and said, “Sorry, Sir”. I smiled. (I didn’t know what else to do!) She told me that the guy who manages migrations hadn’t come which is why I must come the next day. Not in a state to trouble her more, I said thanks and got out of the shop.

A female colleague of mine came back from a trip to Goa (her hometown) yesterday and I being a gadget freak noticed almost instantly that she had a new cell phone. So I’m checking out her phone and then I landed up in the videos folder. I asked her if it was okay if I saw the videos. She told me to go ahead. And guess what the first video had in it. It was her dancing away on some song. But what was funny was that it was apparently taken without her knowledge and showed her backside. It was absolutely hilarious. I kept watching it for sometime, trying my best to hide the laughter but I gave in soon and then she figured it out and took the phone away from me. This kept me smiling the whole day.

Rediff Movie Reviews and Haters

Rediff, like many other portals, have a movie review section where they review the latest releases and as expected, a lot of Rediff users, read these reviews. Unfortunately, not too many of them agree with these reviews which is fine but since these reviews have a “post a comment” option, these people comment on these reviews with utmost hatred. I have read some of these comments and most of them are very insulting and I just don’t understand why they need to be so personal about it. I agree that Rediff doesn’t seem to have got very “professional” reviewers but still.

Another thing that annoys me is that if these people really don’t think that rediff’s reviews are good then why do they keep coming back and commenting and mocking them. If I don’t think the reviews from a particular source, I move on and look for other sources but this is just crazy. Now one may argue that people comment because Rediff asks for their feedback but hasn’t years of bad reviewing and even worse commenting proved that Rediff doesn’t care. So why these people don’t get it is completely beyond me.

Also one might think that given India’s huge population, a different set of people comment every time but having spent some time researching it (I know I am really a big time online (re)searcher), I found that its mostly the same set of people who keep commenting.

I go back to Rediff Movie Reviews sometimes too but only to see their take on a movie.
So I think the best thing for Rediff to do now is to disable the comments because that will be best for everyone.

Of course, this is just my opinion and you might not agree with it and comment, which is fine, but just don’t get personal.

My Weekend’s Highlights

  • I spotted a van distributing GETIT yellow pages 2005-06 and happilly got a copy for myself. In fact, I am so happy about it that I can’t even tell you. And don’t ask why cos I have no idea myself.
  • I was flipping through channels on Saturday evening and KBC2 was on. Even though I don’t watch the show, I thought I might do with making fun of stupid people who don’t know answers to the simplest of questions. The show started with Amitabh comparing human relationships to Bluetooth which was weird to say the least…some over payed writers need to be fired, like, right now. At any rate, to my utter surprise, the player who was on the hot seat lost very quickly cos he was dumb and then a new player was chosen and to my utter surprise, it was none other than my 7th grade history teacher. I called up my mom immediately to confirm that it was her but my mom didn’t remember her at all but I was pretty sure that it was her and then Nitin, my friend from school days who also works in Bangalore, called me up and we both had a good laugh about it. In case you are interested in knowing, she won Rs.640,000. And whats interesting is that she lost because of a political science question.
  • I saw …Yahaan in a half-full theater in the newly opened INOX and I liked the movie and the place.
  • I went over to my cousin’s place for dinner on Sunday evening. They had some other guests over too who were talking about taxes and mutual funds and ppf and whatnot and I was thinking about mentioning all that in my blog.
