My Life as a Movie

As far back as I can remember, I always imagined my life to be a movie once in a while. And this was much before “The Truman Show”. So in my movie, I am obviously the protagonist and the people I know have key roles of varying importance. Some people have main roles, some recurring, others have guest appearances and then there are lots of extras. Though it can get boring at times, it’s mostly interesting with unexpected twists and turns. Is it common for people to think of their lives as a movie? I’d like to know!

I recently saw this movie, “Stranger than Fiction”, in which a guy starts hearing his life being narrated as he leads it. Now that would be annoying! I would never want that to happen to me. But I wouldn’t mind having some background music in my life. Cheerful music when I am happy, suspenseful music when I am anxious, sad or soothing music when I am down and no music at the time of important and serious events. Just like in the movies. That would be fun, right? Even few original theme songs wouldn’t hurt!

While on the subject of movies, I finally got around watching “Before Sunrise” last Saturday. I remember watching first few minutes of the movie years ago on TV and I didn’t like it much back then. I later learnt how it was considered a modern romantic classic of sorts and I got the DVD from a friend months ago so I finally relented and decided to give it a try even though I generally avoid sappy romantic movies. I ended up liking it mostly for its realism. In fact, I liked it so much that I watched the sequel “Before Sunset” the same day. And I liked it better than the first, which happens very rarely. Also, Julie Delpy is brilliant in both the movies, more so in the second one.

I got tagged by Amodini yesterday and since I was already writing this post, I though I would include the tag right here.

The rules of the tag are:

  1. You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name.
  2. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.
  3. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag.

But I’m gonna twist and turn the rules cos its fun that way!

So I may or may not have a middle name but I’m gonna go ahead with “Raj”.

R – I’ve registered myself on so many websites in the past seven and a half years that every time I come across a seemingly new site, I first key in the default username and password I normally use and more often than not, I’m already registered.

A – A lot of people think I’m arrogant. I am not sure if I am. Who cares!

J – I’m bad at telling dirty jokes. And that’s why I never do it! Now that’s one weakness I can live with.

Those were three perfectly useless facts about me. Let me know if you’d be interested in knowing more such facts about me!

Anybody who is in dire need of subject for a new post should feel free to pick this tag up.

The Wiki Tag

Abigail tagged me with the wikipedia tag a while ago. So here it is:

(My comments are in brackets)

The steps of the tag:

1. Go to Wikipedia and type in the month and day you were born:

That’s December 7 for me.

2. List three events that occurred that day:

1941 - World War II: Attack On Pearl Harbor - The Imperial Japanese Navy attacks the US Pacific Fleet and its defending Army Air Forces and Marine air forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. (Probably the most well-remembered event that occured on my Birthday)

1972 - Apollo 17, the last Apollo moon mission, is launched. The crew take the photograph known as “The Blue Marble” as they leave the Earth. (Hmm, good!)

1987 - PSA Flight 1771 crashes near Paso Robles, California, killing all 43 on board, after a disgruntled passenger shoots his ex-boss on the flight, then shoots both pilots and himself. (Is that weird or what?)

3. List two important birthdays:

1973 - Damien Rice, Irish musician (I like his music, especially the song “Amie”.)

1978 - Shiri Appleby, American actress (She’s the girl from Roswell. She’s beautiful!)

4. List one death:

1254 - Pope Innocent IV

5. Tag five friends to do the same:

Well, anyone who wants to do it should feel tagged!

The twO-in-One tag

I looked around and didn’t see too much activity on any of the blogs I usually visit so I decided to take matters into my hands and I came up with a small two-in-one tag to get things going.

The first step in this two-step meme is to find your Japanese name using the Japanese Name Generator (via Blog Reader and his Blog). It’s completely random and doesn’t take too much time which is why its fun. Also, my name turned out to be Shou Ito, which is really small compared to other Japanese names and I really like it. I won’t mind it if you call me by that name at all.

The second and a little longer step is to dig into your blog’s archives and find the one post, which you think (remember this. its important!), is the worst post you’ve ever written. It could be a post you wanted to delete before anybody could read it – maybe you even did that. Or a post you wished nobody would read, or maybe it was so bad that you wrote another post soon to ensure it wasn’t at the top of your blog.

Here on Thoughts on a lonely afternoon, my worst post has to be “Why Do It Yourself?”. It’s really very dumb. Almost mind numbing.

I want everyone to do this. Cos if you do this, I’ll mention your name and post your post’s permalink here. (How tempting is that?)

So start working on it. Now!

Well, here are the posts that were written in response to this tag:

Sher-e-Jalandhar - Only For Raj’s Tag
Akanksha - Untitled
Abigail did the tag in this post’s comments section.

Save The Best For Last

Varun tagged me and the rule of the tag is:

If u were to see 5 countries (your home country excluded) and then never get to see anything else, which countries would these be?

For me, it would have to be:

  1. France – Italy – Germany – Luxembourg – Greece (EU is almost one country, right?)
  2. South Korea
  3. Russia
  4. Canada
  5. Israel

I tag all my regular readers. No compulsion, as always.
