I Did it!
// June 2nd, 2006 // Life, Movies
Last Sunday, I decided it was high time that I finished reading the fifth novel of my life that I started reading few months and gave up on after the fourth chapter. So I got dressed and went to INOX to watch “The Da Vinci Code”. Unfortunately, it was completely sold out so I decided to go try my luck at PVR even though it is a little too far. I reached the ticket window at 12.54 pm and the next show was at 1 pm so I had very slim chance of getting a ticket but just then a guy stepped in front of me and said something to the ticket window guy who then picked up a mic and made an announcement that there was 1 last ticket available for the 1 pm show. Cud I’ve been any luckier? I quickly gestured that I wanted it. The ticket window guy pointed towards the other guy and I bought the ticket from him. Turns out that he was supposed to watch the movie with his girlfriend but she couldn’t. He wanted to sell both the tickets but she wanted him to watch the movie and then tell her all about it. So anyhow, I finally got in.
Just fifteen minutes into the movie, I realized that I had stopped reading the book just before it got interesting. How sad!
Now the movie is long, even longer than most Bollywood movies. But its okay. Neither good nor bad. Since I’d not read the book, I didn’t know what was going to happen next so it was a little fun. And I’ve been a fan of Audrey Tautou even since I saw Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain a.k.a. Amelie. But Tom Hanks looked bored and boring. And I think the movie was easy enough for even the people who haven’t read the book to understand.
Once I got home, I quickly took the book out of the cupboard and turned over to the last page and read it. There, that’s how I finished reading my fifth book.

//And I think the movie was easy enough for even the people who haven’t read the book to understand.

Well, now you do!
Audrey isn’t sexy, she’s a good actress who looks good.
I’ll have to watch Xmen 3 on either DVD or TV now.
@vinaya: So u like the movie! Well, ya, I think Audrey is awesome, don’t you?

Yes, thats true but not all movies based on a book succeed in achieving it and I think this movie must be commended for doing so.

Which guy? The guy who sold me the ticket? What about him?
nice way to finish a book man and hey thanx for the tip .. i’ll try to catch the movie even though i have no time to read the book…may be reading the book will be after the movie
@abhinav: I’ve always been a supporter of watching a mive rather than reading a book. It saves a lot of time.
i disagree Raj, books are always fun and reading them will u understand what made this book click/famous so that a movie is made based on it. Also there are movies where the stories are twisted for commercial considerations eg. Patriot Games the climax was totally changed in the movie.
@abhinav: Of course, I never said that everyone shud watch the movies rather than read the books. All I said that I prefer watching the movies cos I don’t like reading. And yes, I know how movies can twist the story to suit them.
ah! finally!! that took too long to finish that book, man! i took one night to finish the whole thing too. but i finished it the day i got it from the store! i liked the book, but its a kind of book that u can read just once, not over n over again.. u know what i mean? once u know the ending u realise that there is nothing to the book at all.
@freeze: Yes, it did take long but better late than never.
I know exactly what u mean. Even I didnt find it that mysterious. I guessed the end right after (or was it before?) the interval
It is better to read the book & then watch the movie rather seeing the movie & not understanding it.
Da Vinci code is one of my favorite books, but i missed the movie due to exams.
Btw your way of completing the book seems interesting too:)
@disha: Yes, its sad if one doesnt understand the movie
The movie is very different from the real book.So its worth spending some time with book.
Movie is no where near the book.
@sharda: Ya, i know but I couldnt get myself to read the book.
