From mid 2001 right up to mid 2003, I was pretty much addicted to PC gaming.
I played all kinds of games but the genre that I liked the most was RTS (Real time strategy) closely followed by FPS (First Person Shooting) and Racing.
Whenever I got a new game, I used to play the game for days. (Yes, I had to go to college but I bunked it once in a while). Of course, it wasn’t easy to play the whole day without being disturbed. Mom used to call (read “shout at”) me at regular intervals because tea/breakfast/lunch/snacks/dinner/something was ready. Of course, even her shouting couldn’t get me away from the game so most of the times I ended up eating in front of my comp.
The urge of finish a game never let me stop before I finished the whole game. I remember playing Max Payne for two and a half days continuously or playing The Age Of Empires in the whole Christmas vacations, campaigns of which lasted for hours and time seemed to just fly by.
Some games were more difficult than others. Delta Force was impossible to win and it took me quite some time to learn to control a car let alone win a race in Need For Speed 5.
And even sleeping couldn’t keep me away from thinking about games. I often dreamed about how I could kill a particular guy in Quake 3 before he killed me or how to win a “Capture the Flag” in Unreal Tournament.
But then as time passed by, my love for games started fading which was partly due to the fact that new games needed a Pentium 4 machine with 32MB graphics card when I just had a Pentium 3/850Mhz machine with a 16MB graphics card. I was sane enough to not upgrade my system just for playing games although I was quite disheartened when I got to know that I wont be able to play Unreal 2. I bought Age of Mythology to help me get over that.
My penchant for games is not dead yet. I plan on buying a playstation very soon. But this was one phase of my life that I will always cherish.

i also loved playing games but they r i think totally diff frm the ones that u played..
i loved plaing mario, tetris and f1 race and sm bike racing game..

I still play age of empires when i have the time, even though i’ve played it so many times already. Its addictive. Right now, i’m addicted to playing pool on the net (yahoo! games). Also liked road rash, even though it was really easy to win… hmmm maybe thats y i liked it

Age of empires. That damn thing. In our college there were four hostel blocks, all were networked. There used to be mammoth inter block age of empire sessions. You wont believe the fights that would ensue after the game was over. Of course I was an onlooker. My types of games were NFS. Still have it. Still play it. Am unchallenged in it, its a daily fight between my old record and me trying to squeeze that 1 second somewhere to come up with a new record.
How’s playing Host going? Or is that done and over with?
This past summer I really got into PC games. But I was more into the Myst kind of games. Not so much action as riddles and puzzles. I spent night and day on the computer. But that all ended once I started teaching. Those were the days!… I hope you can get back to some of it!
I just love NFS. I just could not stop till I won. I coud play for hours on end and I had all the same symptoms that u described regarding eating in front of the comp etc.
@akanksha: I loved mario too. It was fun.
@freeze: Yeah, AOE is pretty addictive and Road rash is one of the easiest games to win. So you finally got a blog for yourself, huh? (If you r the same N who used to comment anonymously earlier)
@yogi: Yeah, there was a time when i was the master of each n every track of NFS. Its been a while since i last played it tho. Playing AOE in a n/w is stupendous fun. How come u didnt like it?
@abigail: I’m still palying the host and its going great, actually. Will write a post about it soon. I’m sure you can find some time to play games but it sure is addictive so it might cos some problems.
@lucio: Its a universal epidemic.
