Public Demand

There have been few requests for posts about TV and I wanted to write something about music for quite some time so I’ll put it all together.

But not before some ranting. Recently, few colleagues when asked for their opinion on me said that I seemed to be little arrogant at first but once they got to know me, I turned out to be a pretty easygoing person. Now, this is something I refuse to accept. As far as I know myself, I am arrogant and an easygoing person as well. So the correct thing to say would be that I am just a little arrogant but an easygoing person. What do you all think?

Update: When I asked “What do you all think?”, I did not ask for your opinion about me, okay. I meant to ask, Can’t a person be both arrogant and easygoing? After being loyal readers of my blog, you really think I care about what people think of me? Well, I do but never show it so answer the correct question, please!

Moving on, Idol fever is on with both Indian Idol and American Idol being aired at the same time. Indian Idol is already in the Gala round where all the contestants seem to be well trained in crying and begging for votes. American Idol has just started so auditions are what we’ve got to see so far. Somehow AI auditions are more fun to watch. They have more weird characters than II does. The freaks in India want to act more than they want to sing, I think.

The songs I’m listening to these days are “Heard ‘Em Say” by Kanye West feat. Adam Levine, “Check On It” by Beyonce Knowles, “Khwaahishon Se” by Shreya Ghosal and Kunal Ganjawala from Holiday and a better quality version of “Naina Neer Bahaye” by Sadhna Sargam from Water. It truly is a great song.

I change the channel ASAP whenever the song “Aapka Suroor” by Himesh Reshammiya is on. Why must he always howl like a dog? And his other song, “Jhalak Dikhla Jaa” from Aksar, in all probability, is the most nasal song to be released ever. And both of these songs are hits, apparently. What’s wrong with everyone?

    About Himesh Reshamiya’s songs:

    I have huge problems with his songs. Apart from the nasal voice, one more thing that bothers me is that songs are grammatically inconsistent.

    Example 1: tere bin ….., tere bin …., tere bin …., ….

    Aashiq banaya aapne

    Example 2:
    Album name: Aapka Suroor.

    Song: Aye huzoor, tera tera tera suroor.

    :)

    u dont seem arrogant at all! And u do seem easygoing…

    AI is just the best! they just show everything that is funny… maybe thats y. II is a lil too serious.

    The best part of AI is really the weird ppl who come. its just hilarious! its even funnier when the Simon and Randy start laughin at their faces, and Paula tries to keep a straight face. and nothing can beat the sarcastic comments by simon!

  3. 3 Raj Jan 27th, 2006 at 7:13 pm

    @anon: Hahahaha :)

    Thats a valid point and something I never noticed.

    He really shouldn’t be allowed to sing.

    @freeze: well, i am just a little arrogant and only for people I don’t know well. The question here is that why can’t a person be both arrogant and easygoing?

    Ya, II is more serious. People in India (both contestants and viewers) get offended by even the least rude comments.

  4. 4 RR Jan 27th, 2006 at 7:20 pm

    Dont watch either the AI or II. But weekly tele roundup as u r previous post was called was more comprehensive.

    And a blog is too small a space and provides too restricted a view to tell how any one is personally.

  5. 5 Raj Jan 28th, 2006 at 12:20 pm

    @sej: Point taken. I will try to make it more comprehensive next time.

    //And a blog is too small a space and provides too restricted a view to tell how any one is personally.

    Pls read the updated post :)

    So aapne weekly television round up prastut kar diya (darshakon ke maang par)

    Maine yah American Idol or Indian Idol ka darshan nahin kiya hai, isliye main kuch vyaktigat roop se nahin byan kar paaoonga….

    About arrogant and easy going thing - I don’t think I can answer this either cause I was never an ‘image-conscious’ person. I always did what ‘I’ wanted to do as long as I am not hurting anyone in any way.

  7. 7 Aaki Jan 28th, 2006 at 9:03 pm

    This I must say about Himesh’s songs.. Actually a friend yesterday made a comment that Himesh comes across as constipated(yes, that is the word), when he says ”ek baar aa jaa aa jaaaaa..”. Go figure. :p
    about being arrogant and easy going at the same time, yes, its alright. you may not like someone, and come across as arrogant, while you may be easygoing with people you like. so well.. justified then :p

  8. 8 Raj Jan 29th, 2006 at 1:08 pm

    @greensatya:

    // Indian Idol ka darshan nahin kiya hai

    ha ha :)

    //byan

    Are you punjabi? cos thats how a lot of them pronounce ‘bayaan’.

    Its good that you’re not an image-conscious person but you don’t have to be one in order to answer my question.

    @aaki: He looks more like a constipated dog howling at night :)

    Thanks for agreeing with me. You are the first to do that. All the others are useless. They don’t seem to get that when I ask such a question, I just want them to nod along :D

  9. 9 RR Jan 29th, 2006 at 10:36 pm

    Hell, when Almighty Bush can go about proclaiming and telivising peace and then turns in to become an avtaar of death which would make even the yumdoot tremble, it is in our capacity to be arrogant and easy going at the same time.

  10. 10 Xohra Jan 30th, 2006 at 8:28 am

    Dat was a gud post :D! Ah didn’t know you had your own Indian Idol.. It’s said tho, to see India alwayz copying America :|. 11. 11 Raj Jan 30th, 2006 at 9:57 am

    @sej: Thats more like it. I knew I could garner some support from my readers :)

    @xohra: American Idol isnt original either. The original was Pop Idol in the UK.

    //Dat ain’t no pimp

    ha ha. I listen to different songs for different reasons. I like this one bcos of the music. its catchy.

  12. 12 Sayesha Jan 30th, 2006 at 1:29 pm

    I liked Himmesh’s ‘Aapki kashish’ but I didn’t like Jhalak Diklaja at all. :(

  13. 13 Vinaya Jan 30th, 2006 at 3:36 pm

    I couldn’t catch up on your posts last week because I was in Mumbai . I did meet you and did not for a moment think that you are arrogant.

  14. 14 Raj Jan 30th, 2006 at 3:50 pm

    @sayesha: Ya, “Aapki Kashish” was sort of okay. “Jhalak Dikhlaja” sux. Plus, the fact that its picturised on the dog-monkey man, Emraan Hashmi, doesn’t help it either :D

    @vinaya: Hey, how are you? I was just about to shoot you a mail regarding your absence from blogosphere.

    Anyway, thanks for not finding me arrogant :)

  15. 15 Vamsee Jan 31st, 2006 at 5:54 am

    Hi Raj,

    Have been visiting your blog now and then…
    I feel you are an open person…
    you don’t write one thing, and have something different in mind…
    Well, for your question…
    A person can be arrogant and easygoing…
    When you meet a person you dont want to…you can be arrogant…
    but after interacting with the same person and understanding the person you will become easy going…
    have a great day…
    Girish…

    @becky: I knew I was right and now that all of you have backed me up on this, I feel great.

    Regarding Water release in India: Apparently Sony BMG has bought the rights from Ajay Virmani. Looks like Water might release by end of this month or March 1st week.

    If the release is not confirmed by 15th Feb, can I ask you to mail me other songs as well.
    ;)

  26. 26 Raj Feb 3rd, 2006 at 6:48 pm

    @anon: Just drop me a line whenever you want the songs :)
