I’m used to doing nothing special on New Year’s Eve and I planned on doing the same this year too but it turned out to be surprisingly different. My cousin and bro-in-law called me up on 30th night and told me that we were going to go to Wonder La, a new amusement-n-water park just outside the city, the next day. Now I remember going to Appu Ghar in Delhi as a kid some ten years ago and loving it but I wasn’t sure if I’ll like it now. And I’ve never been to a water park in my life cos I somehow considered then a waste of time. So I was apprehensive about the whole thing but then something is better than nothing so I went.
And I’m happy that I did. Cos I had a blast there. It’s really a fun place. The most fun that I had was in the wave pool where artificial waves are created. Now if you remember, I have never been to a beach so this was as a first for me. I also discovered that I could be a really fun person when taken out of my natural habitat.
There was dancing in the evening which was thankfully cut short by the New Year fireworks at 7pm cos the park closes down by 8pm. I could take very few pics cos my digicam’s cells went dead. You can see few more photos on my flickr page.
We came back to the city and went to a nice restaurant for dinner, which was also the first time I went to Koramangala. Reached home at 11.40pm in time to usher in the New Year. Mom called me at 11.50pm anticipating the cell phone network jam at midnight. And the networks did get clogged up. The first call I got after midnight was at 12.34pm from my sister. And a few minutes later, I got my first SMS of the year from my bank that my salary had been credited to my account. Great start!

It’s also the first time that you have posted the same article three times
I want to visit WonderLa sometime this month.
@vinaya: No, its not my fault. Blogger went completely berserk on me. I’ve been trying so hard for the past few mins to bring the moron back to its senses with little luck but I think I finally have things under control
Dude, get a life man!
I gather from your earliest post that you are in Bengaluru from, atleast since june 2005 and you say you came down to Koramangla for the first time on the last day of 2005. R u kidding me? Seriously..I thought that place existed only because of ppl in our age group.
@yogi: Actually i’m in “Bangalore” since July, 2004 and when i say i went to Koramangala for the first time, I mean the interiors. I have been to the forum and the area around it till Raheja arcade a gazillion times. And anyhow, “Bangalore” is a big city and i live in north-central part of the city and feel no need of going to Koramangala. There are a lot of other happening places in the city and i think its mostly people living in South bangalore who don’t know a thing about the rest of the city.
Cool !! that was a nice way to celebrate new year eve.
By the way when the whole world was not able to get their SMS through, how did you bank manage ? I smell rat!! Check your account :p
WonderLa seems to be a nice place, most of the corporates are also having their bashes there.
Wow, north – central, south..you sure r a map buff.
Your comment section is aking me to verify: fulckndhot.
And I failed due to obvious reasons.
i am glad u had fun!.. now i want to check out this place..
just remembered a funny incident :
when i went to a water park.. this guy went on a huge water slide and when he finally landed in water his shorts came off!
we could all c his shorts floating on the surface.. LOL ;p
@greensatya: ICICI Bank has its ways. Wonder la surely is a great place and it is both well-managed and well-maintained.
@yogi: In some circles, i might be called well-informed. I never knew word verification used AI to sense what the commenter was thinking about
@akanksha: U shud definitely check it out altho its not a very safe place for you. I mean, lots of chances of breaking bones
And were the man’s shorts the only thing you saw or did you see some other unexpected and scary things too?
actually, wave pools are a bit better than the ocean, because they are lacking the nasty sand and dirt.
when i was pregnant, my hubby and i went to a water park. the trip was planned before we knew that we were expecting, but we went anyway. i wasnt allowed to go on any crazy rides or things of that sort. So we spent the whole time at the wave pool. It was nice though.
you cant beat a real ocean. I lived in California right near the beach and it was great but water parks are exciting to! Sounds like a good way to kick off a new year and great pictures too!
@becky: Yeah, every ride had a sign that said “not suitable for pregnant women, heart patients and people with high/low blood pressure”
Wave pool is a lot of fun.
@sarah: Thanks. I’ll try my best to visit an actual beach this year to see what the fuss is all about
coool stuff!!!
for a moment, i was wondering if you were in the US… !
Bhaskar
@joey: ha ha. too cool for India, huh?
